The alumni of the School of Oriental and African Studies are part of a global, unique and diverse network of graduates, that have an enormous sense of community, always wanting to give back to the institution and to help fellow alumni and students in as many ways as possible. SOAS became aware, especially in the few years prior to the platform’s launch, that mentoring was something that the SOAS alumni community were increasingly very keen to get involved with. Given Aluminati’s proven track record and testimonials from a number of Higher Education institutions in the UK, the team at SOAS entrusted Aluminati with the task of developing SOAS’ own customised, functional, engaging and visually appealing platform.
In conjunction with SOAS University of London’s of 100 year anniversary and following a smooth deployment process, the School launched the SOAS Connect platform as an online community and mentoring service, exclusively for SOAS graduates around the world.
The service was initially rolled out to 400 alumni that expressed interest in being mentors in early July 2017, and will be gradually launching to wider alumni over the year, with plans to extend to students in the future.
Katherine Yuk, SOAS’ Alumni Engagement Officer and platform project leader described her experience with Aluminati:
It’s been truly wonderful – really appreciate the ongoing help and guidance that Louise and her team have given us. They are absolutely lovely to work with!
The platform will be one of SOAS’ first steps in building a greater and stronger alumni volunteer base and will help inspire alumni to get involved in other SOAS activities. In turn, it will allow SOAS to stay more connected and build longer, lasting relationships with their constituents and improve their quality of data.
